FALL MEETING UPDATES

Hello again MAFS Members!

 

Hopefully you’re busy making summer travel plans, or maybe have already found yourself on vacation. I was fortunate to have had a short, but much needed getaway recently. Although I didn’t feel I could take the time away, it was clear I needed it, and certainly could have used a little more time off. If your workplace is like mine, there is always plenty of work to do however we need to make it a point to take time away to rest and rejuvenate.

MAFS 2016 Fall Meeting Merchandise - 01-Aug-2016

The MAFS 2016 Fall Meeting planners are offering for sale a polo shirt with a full-colored embroidered MAFS logo.  The polos are 65:35 cotton:polyester and are stone colored.  Polos are available in men’s and women’s styles, sizes for both are XS-3XL.  Prices are $23 each for XS-XL, add $2.00 for 2XL; $3.00 for 3XL) Shipping is an additional $6.  Shirts can be picked up by someone else attending the meeting, you will just need to designate who will be picking your shirt up for you.

MAFS Collegiate Student Development Fund - 10-Jun-2014

The Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS) has a fund to encourage collegiate research that will benefit the field of forensic science. This is an opportunity for a college student to present his/her forensic science research project at a professional meeting in the presence of practicing forensic scientists and other forensic science students. MAFS hopes to encourage student member participation while giving MAFS members an opportunity to learn about research currently being done at the collegiate level.

 

 

 Eligibility Requirements:  

 

1. Participants must be MAFS student affiliate members at the time of application submission.

 

2. Participants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university.

 

3. Participants must be junior/senior year undergraduates, graduate or doctorate students.

 

4. Research projects must be related to the forensic science field and should primarily involve development and/or improvement of evidence examination and/or comparison techniques.

 

5. Participants must submit a completed application form with abstract by August 15th. -Note: The submission deadline has been extended to August 15th, the July date on the form is not applicable at this time.

 

6. A paper presentation of at least 15 minutes will be required at the fall meeting.

 

 

One project will be selected to receive an award to fund attendance at the Fall MAFS meeting in Branson. Funding will include 2 nights lodging, 3 days per diem and registration to the MAFS Fall meeting. Applications must be submitted no later than August 15th. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the MAFS Awards Committee Chair. Look for details in the next MAFS Newsletters! -Note: The submission deadline has been extended to August 15th, the July date on the form is not applicable at this time.

MAFS Professional Development Fund - 10-Jun-2014

MAFS Professional Development Fund

 

The MAFS Professional Development Fund is intended to provide financial assistance to members attending the fall meeting of the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists. To be a recipient of this funding, you must present a paper at the fall meeting. Don’t miss this opportunity to receive financial assistance to attend the 2016 meeting in Branson, Missouri! There are several awards available with funding up to $500!

 

 

To apply for a Professional Development Fund award, complete the application form which follows and attach an abstract of your paper.

 

 

The abstract should include the following information:

1. Objective of the presentation

2. Relevance to the scientific community

3. Methodology

4. Results

5. Conclusion
