Position: Firearms and Toolmark Examiner – Entry Level
Salary: The salary for this position is $42,000. Hamilton County also offers an excellent retirement program and health benefits.
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Laboratory has an immediate opening for an entry level firearms examiner. The laboratory is accredited under ISO 17025:2017 by ANAB as of June 2019. The state-of-the-art, brand new, $55M laboratory serves approximately 43 police agencies in a region of about 1 million people including the city of Cincinnati. Job responsibilities include the normal microscopic comparison of firearms evidence, toolmark comparisons, distance determinations, serial number restorations, function tests, court testimony, and training law enforcement personnel. This position does NOT involve GSR (primer residues) analyses, footwear/tiretrack comparisons, or crime scene processing. Normal working hours are 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday with no “On-call.” The examiner will join a staff of five other firearms examiners. The examiner will be required to comply with safety, quality control, and other administrative criteria of the ANAB accreditation program. Hamilton County is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. Qualifications:
The applicant must have a Bachelor’s in Science degree in Forensic Science or some other natural science. The applicant must be able to show an interest, knowledge, skills, and abilities in firearms usage.
