Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the natural or forensic sciences, including or supplemented by sixteen (16) credit hours in Chemistry, and eight (8) years of professional* experience in forensic examinations, including two (2) years of supervisory experience
Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university will reduce the years of professional* experience in forensic examinations to seven (7) years
Qualifying experience must have been gained within the last ten (10) years
Applicants should be proficient in at least two (2) of the following disciplines:
Impression (footwear) evidence, Hairs, Fibers, pGSR, Fire Debris, and Paint
At the time of appointment and during employment in the title, employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State
Benefits
Annual Salary: $113,777 to $128,643
Pay: $113,000.00 - $128,000.00 per year
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the supervision of the technical and administrative operations of the Trace Evidence section of the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory
The Supervisor assigns and reviews signed reports and analyses performed, supervises all aspects of the section’s quality assurance program as well as the section’s internal and external proficiency testing programs, and facilitates training within the section
The Supervisor assists management in budget preparation for the section for each fiscal year, including staff, capital equipment and training requests
The individual may be expected to perform scientific analyses in the section and provide testimony at a variety of legal proceedings regarding findings and observations
The individual may participate in crime scene investigations
